First things first, I pronounce my name car-in, as in “plug the car in.”
In 2022, I quit my job and spent three months traveling around the US in my Toyota Matrix – I had a blast! I visited far-flung friends and family. I spent time in nature, in the city, and everywhere in between. Frugal by nature, I slept in my car and mostly ate from the grocery store. I enjoyed the nomadic life.

Now I want to continue my travels and adventures, but I don’t feel right driving a gasoline vehicle any more. Having spent 15 years working for several state agencies on improving air quality and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, with a focus on transportation, I understand the importance of getting off of carbon-intense fuels. I’m ready to electrify my travel!
I’ve encountered a number of people who say the electric vehicles aren’t there yet for this type of travel… I’m out to prove them wrong, or at least find ways to travel in the vehicles currently available. In the process, I want to share what I experience and learn. So, buckle up, here we go!
